Sneak Peek: N&S GAIA by Sidharth Sinha-A tribute to Meghalaya - Lakme Fashion Week Summer Resort 2014

Yet another wonderful step to promote the weavers, craftsmanship and textile story of North East India and above all to bridge the gap between the region and the rest of the country. The label N&S GAIA by Sidharth Sinha, with the support of the Govt. of Meghalaya, is in a mission to promote hand-woven textiles of this beautiful state. The Govt. of Meghalaya will be supporting N&S GAIA at the Lakme Fashion Week 2014 to be held in Mumbai from 12th – 16th March as an emerging designer in the Indian Textile category.

Sidharth drew inspiration from the Northeast's colonial heritage, from the Vintage Assam Bungalows to the Victorian architecture left behind by The British Raj. For those of you from Shillong must be aware of Rosaville, an estate built in 1935 which is now a posh guest house in Shillong. The designer captivates the interiors of this endearing piece of colonial architecture and the old world charm and effortlessly translates them into his collection.

As a tribute to the environment, the label strongly believes in using natural fabrics to produce sustainable and essential fabrics for their products. The designer has used 100% hand woven fabrics with natural dying for his entire Spring Summer 2014 collection. And, yes, they have weaved an Ikat pattern for the first time in Meghalaya, with Cotton, Eri and Muga blends. The collection highlights the precious craft of Meghalaya “Dakmanda” (hand picking pattern to produce fine intricate hand plucked embroidery in the weaving process).

While the label is more driven towards western fashion sensibility, Sidharth stays in constant touch with his roots and is dedicated to research and development in the areas of natural dyeing and traditional crafts of Northeast India. This collection is a tribute to the weavers and craftsmen of the state of Meghalaya.
