Titled ‘Untamed’ the
Spring Summer 2014 collection by talented Nikhil Thampi celebrates the power of
the sexes and their freedom for uninhibited expression. Through this
collection, the designer captures the spirit of the today’s time (Read: Zeigeist),
an amalgamation of new age, urbane sophistication with the underlying rebellion
against social conformism.
The
collection featured structured blazers, uber-sexy high slit gowns, tailored
trousers, bralets, pleated high-waist pants, pencil skirt with side zip detail,
dress shirts, tan leather pieces and of course
his signature metallic obi belt with metallic floral details. One of the stand
out piece was the cape-like jacket with cut-out details, paired with a high
waist trouser, thus untaming the established idea of a pant suit. Almost all
the pieces were embellished with 3-D rose-gold metallic flowers that gave the
collection a sophisticated feel.
On
the other hand interesting zip detailing brought in a fashion forward feel to
the collection. Fabrics like crepe, stretch cotton, organza and leather blended
with the color story of summer white to blush pink, nude, yellow, red, teal,
purple and tan leather depicting the feminine yet rebellious nature of the
collection, fluid yet solid. This is one collection which speaks the language
of new age confidence with ease, awakening the beauty and the power of the
untamed life.
