Titled ‘Char Bagh’, the Indo-western
Autumn/Winter 2013 line by Payal Singhal at the Lakme Fashion Week was truly
unconventional with its juxtaposition of nature and architecture. ‘Char Bagh’ or
four gardens, are Persian style garden layout where the
quadrilateral garden is divided by walkways or flowing water into four smaller
parts. Taking inspiration from the architecture and nature story of the garden,
Payal beautifully captured those elements into her collection with geometric
prints and floral embroidery to translate nature on to textile.
The exquisite collection featured a long
dress with scalloped cutwork tops and gota panels at the border, heavily embroidered
blouse paired with lehenga, geometric printed block gown, sherwani top paired
with jodhpur pants, jumpsuits with geometric prints, belly tops, cutwork
jackets, one sleeve printed blouse, leggings and Patiala all in a color palette
of pale blush, pink and black accentuated further by
intricate gold work.
Use of earthy natural fabrics like
silk mul, cotton and crepe silk combined with the architectural story presented
a soft flowing feminine yet structured collection. With her own unique vision and
detailing, Payal has created a wearable line, where each piece has its own
strong personality.
